What’s new: Recent Windows 11 24H2 updates (KB5063878 and KB5062660) are reportedly causing data corruption and failure issues for certain SSD and HDD models, particularly those with Phison NAND controllers. Users have reported drives disappearing during heavy write operations, with some drives remaining inaccessible even after a reboot. Phison is collaborating with Microsoft to address the issue.
Who’s affected
Users with SSDs and HDDs, especially those using Phison NAND controllers, SanDisk Extreme Pro, Corsair Force MP600, Maxio SSD, and KIOXIA EXCERIA PLUS G4, may experience these issues. Symptoms appear on SSDs with over 60% usage after approximately 50GB of continuous writing.
What to do
- Avoid writing large files (tens of gigabytes) or multiple large files in quick succession.
- When extracting large compressed files, do so in smaller batches rather than all at once.
